On Monday March 7, at approximately 7:11 p.m. Sgt. Ryan Meagher and Deputy Orlando Buitron were dispatched to an address near La Grange in reference to a disturbance. Deputies arrived and were informed there was a subject who was in the house that was criminally trespassed from the residence and was not supposed to be there.

Schreiner University has named Faith Hanacek of Schulenburg to its Dean’s List for the Fall 2021 term. To qualify for the Dean’s List, a full-time student must have passing grades in all courses and must earn at least a 3.50 grade point average and at least 12 hours credit for the term.

As of March 4, the Gardenia E. Jannsen Animal Shelter has 73 animals in care: 44 cats and 29 dogs. This number includes animals in the facility, in foster care for medical, space, or awaiting transport to rescue partner. The total intake for 2022 so far is 163 animals in need.

A home in Fayetteville caught fire Tuesday morning, March 8. The home is located three doors down from Fayetteville ISD on North Rusk Street (SH 159).

Schulenburg Police arrested two men on burglary charges after serving a search warrant in Hallettsville Saturday. Schulenburg Police Chief Troy Brenek said the arrests stemmed from a pair of burglaries at Leon’s Electric and Plumbing in Schulenburg last month.

My name is Anthony Wessels, and I am running for the position of La Grange I.S.D. School Board of Trustees, Place One. I am a 1996 graduate of La Grange High School and have been in and around the public school system for the better part of my life. My grandfather, Fritz Lobpries, was a schoolteacher, coach, principal and county school superintendent before becoming Fayette County Judge. My mother, Becky Wessels, is a retired coach/schoolteacher of 29 years, 21 of which were for the La Grange Independent School District. My father, Clarence Wessels, served eight years on the board of trustees for the Cuero Independent School District. My stepmom, Patricia Wessels, also taught 29 years in the public school system, most of which in the Cuero Independent School District. Growing up surrounded by this knowledge and experience has provided me with a front row seat to the rewards and challenges faced by professionals and volunteers in the Public School Industry.
