Wessels Running for LGISD School Board

Wessels Running for LGISD School Board

My name is Anthony Wessels, and I am running for the position of La Grange I.S.D. School Board of Trustees, Place One. I am a 1996 graduate of La Grange High School and have been in and around the public school system for the better part of my life. My grandfather, Fritz Lobpries, was a schoolteacher, coach, principal and county school superintendent before becoming Fayette County Judge. My mother, Becky Wessels, is a retired coach/schoolteacher of 29 years, 21 of which were for the La Grange Independent School District. My father, Clarence Wessels, served eight years on the board of trustees for the Cuero Independent School District. My stepmom, Patricia Wessels, also taught 29 years in the public school system, most of which in the Cuero Independent School District. Growing up surrounded by this knowledge and experience has provided me with a front row seat to the rewards and challenges faced by professionals and volunteers in the Public School Industry.

Family is everything. My wife, Donna Webb-Wessels, is a 2001 graduate of La Grange High School. She has owned and operated Réve Hair Salon in La Grange for over 10 years. Daughter, Charlee Wessels, is currently a junior at La Grange High School. She is active in the National Honor Society, yearbook, drill team, and reigning Fayette County Fair Queen. Son, Kash Wessels, is currently in the eighth grade at La Grange Middle School. He is active in middle school athletics and spends his weekends playing baseball with Central Texas Storm.

I am loyal. I have essentially (through one acquisition) worked for the same company for 22 years. I am employed by Alsco Inc. as the General Manager of the Austin Branch that provides commercial laundry services to over 2,200 customers while processing in excess of 400,000 lbs. of laundry per week. Through these years of employment, I have worked in every segment of the business including sales, service, and production.

Each of these roles has allowed me to learn and refine leadership and team building skills that I feel will translate well to the guidance role that a member of the board of trustees provides to the leadership of La Grange Independent School District.

I am positive. The glass is most definitely half-full. Energy, whether positive or negative, is contagious and perception becomes reality. I believe, that as a leader, it is important to develop a culture where we pick one another up instead of knocking one another down. A culture where this begins with our youth can only make for a better community. I think Andy Stanley summed it up perfectly when he stated, “Your direction, not your intention, determines your destination.”

I am fair. We are very blessed to live in a free country but must understand that we are governed by rules. While we may not agree with every one of these rules, it must be understood that there are consequences for breaking them. These consequences must apply to all and be consistent, honest, and fair.

On the day that you visit the polls to exercise your right to vote, if I have motivated you to vote for me, please know that I am committed to be a loyal, dedicated, positive and fair La Grange I.S.D. School Board Trustee. As our very own school song ends: “We pledge the same devotion to bring you honor and grace.”

Thank you for your consideration. I am open to all questions and can be reached via email at: anthony.wessels@outlook.com.
