Fayetteville and Flatonia School Enrollments Surging, Others Drop

The non-profit publication Texas Tribune recently launched a Public Schools Explorer database covering the 1,202 public school districts in Texas. The data, available at https:// schools.texastribune.org, includes enrollment trends, demographics, teacher experience, pay and outcomes for all of those schools, at both the district and the campus level.

Hospital Targets June Opening

Progressive Health hopes to reopen the La Grange hospital as soon as June. Dani Dominguez of Progressive Health told the Record this week that all necessary licencing for the hospital should be complete by the week of April 20.

County Supports Fayetteville Pursuit Of a Cultural District Designation

Thursday the Fayette County Commissioners signed a resolution in support of the City of Fayetteville pursuing a cultural district designation. Sandra Borne, executive director of Arts for Rural Texas, said the City applied for a cultural district designation last year through the Texas Commission on the Arts.

Shelter Has 73 Animals In Care

The Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter is open 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday for all normal operations. The shelter is closed to the public on Monday with staff onsite for animal care from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. Reclaims are allowed on Monday after 10 a.m. by appointment. Quilts of Valor Presented to Baker, Dodson

Recently Quilts of Valor were delivered and wrapped around Robert (Bob) Baker and John Dodson who are Vietnam Veterans. Bob Baker (U.S. Army) was instrumental in forming VVA Chapters in Schulenburg, Hallettsville and La Grange and 30-plus Chapters through out the United States. John Dodson (U.S. Army) was a not only a Founding Member and original officer of VVA 870, but a retired teacher in Schulenburg.
Presenting the quilt to Bob Baker were VVA 870 Members Eugene Krupala, Don Christen, Ron Dorsey, Daniel Kutac, Frank White and Andy Janda.

Local Seniors Complete Fall Prevention Program Through AgriLife Extension

Texas A&M AgriLife Extension has successfully wrapped up an eight-session A Matter of Balance series designed to help older adults reduce their fear of falling, increase physical confidence, and stay active in daily life. The evidence- based series combined group discussion, practical strategies, and guided exercise sessions to support participants in improving balance and mobility.
