Fayetteville and Flatonia School Enrollments Surging, Others Drop
The non-profit publication Texas Tribune recently launched a Public Schools Explorer database covering the 1,202 public school districts in Texas.
The data, available at https:// schools.texastribune.org, includes enrollment trends, demographics, teacher experience, pay and outcomes for all of those schools, at both the district and the campus level.
The database’s student enrollment for each district goes back 10 years. The 10-year enrollment figures for Fayette County schools provides an interesting look at local demographic trends. According to the Texas Tribune data, only two school districts in Fayette County have increased enrollment over the last decade: Fayetteville and Flatonia.
Fayetteville ISD’s enrollment was 306 students in 2026, up a staggering 31.6 percent since 2016. Flatonia ISD’s enrollment was 679 students in 2026, up 15.7 percent since 2016.
All of the other school districts in the County have dropped in enrollment over the past decade.
The largest district in the County, La Grange ISD, had an enrollment of 1,842 students in 2026, down 8.3 percent since 2016.
Schulenburg ISD’s enrollment was 648 students in 2026, down 8.3 percent since 2016. Round Top-Carmine ISD’s enrollment was 239 students in 2026, down 17 percent since 2016.
