Local Seniors Complete Fall Prevention Program Through AgriLife Extension
Texas A&M AgriLife Extension has successfully wrapped up an eight-session A Matter of Balance series designed to help older adults reduce their fear of falling, increase physical confidence, and stay active in daily life. The evidence- based series combined group discussion, practical strategies, and guided exercise sessions to support participants in improving balance and mobility.
Throughout the series, participants were led through conversations about fall risks, home safety, and personal goal setting. Each session also included gentle, structured exercises proven to enhance strength, flexibility, and balance. These movement segments were tailored to all ability levels, allowing participants to progress at their own pace. La Grange’s Ultimate Rehab Physical Therapists joined a session to answer questions and offer expert guidance.
“A Matter of Balance gives people tools they can use right away,” said Sally Garrett, Fayette County Extension Agent-Family & Community Health. “The exercises help build physical stability, but the group discussions build something just as important — confidence.”
The program’s group format encouraged open conversation, problem-solving, and mutual encouragement. Special thanks to Capitol Area Agency onAging for programming materials and their support to assist Extension on making this a successful series.
