LGISD: We Have to Learn from Uvalde Tragedy

The La Grange I.S.D Board of Trustees heard another update on school security from district officials Monday night. Superintendent Andy McHazlett said he recently read the 77-page Texas House Congressional Report on the Uvalde school massacre.

Schmidt Retiring From LGISD

One of the longest serving La Grange teachers is retiring. Sherry Schmidt, who taught second grade at Hermes Elementary for 33 years in the same classrooom before moving to the new building the last two years, informed the school she plans to retire and her resignation was accepted at Monday’s board meeting.

First-Ever Fair Jr. Miss Contest Being Held This Year

The first Jr Miss Fayette County Fair Pageant will be held in conjunction with the Scholarship Queen and Little Miss & Mister contests on September 1. This contest is a stepping stone for our area teens that might be interested in running for Fair Queen in the future. They will be selling the Carnival Fun Passes which are passes to ride the new, exciting carnival unlimited from open till 11 pm all 4 days of the fair. The judging criteria for Jr Miss is 40% carnival ticket sales (max of 40 points), 20% pre-pageant interview (max of 20 points), 20% on stage question (max of 20 points) and 20% pageant presentation (max of 20 points) for a total of 100 points. Independent Cattlemen’s Hold Convention and Trade Show

The Independent Cattlemen’s Association completed an exciting convention on Friday, June 24. The 48th annual convention was held at the City of San Marcos Convention Center in San Marcos. Activities at the convention included an entertaining evening with wellknown comedian, William Lee Martin, live music performed by the Clay Hollis Band, and Isaac Jacob, educational speakers, our legacy and legends awards luncheon, a silent and live auction, the drawdown fundraiser, and concluded with a pasture and range forage presentation, along with the option to receive CEU credits from this session.

New American Legion Officers Installed

The H. J. Ehler American Legion Post 102 in La Grange installed new officers for the ensuing year at its monthly meeting on July 13. The new officers are (seated, from left) Odis Pfeiffer, Commander; Mary Gray, Adjutant; Weldon Koenig, Sergeant-at-Arms; Ray Thurman, Hub Master; (standing) Don Jones, Second Vice Commander; Richard Gray, First Vice Commander; John Battle, Service Officer; Dick Frenzel, Chaplain; J.
