The next monthly meeting for American Legion Quade-Werchan Post No. 338 and Ladies Auxiliary scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 6, will be held in conjunction with the Carmine Chamber of Commerce Night Out at the Carmine Fire Station beginning at 6 p.m. Post members, with assistance from members of the local 4H, will be conducting a Flag Disposal Ceremony during the event in accordance with procedures of the American Legion. All members of the post and the auxiliary are requested to attend and to participate in this ceremony.
Colorado Valley Telephone Cooperative and Fayette Electric Cooperative will host their fifth annual document shred day for members on Friday, Oct. 7 in conjunction with National Cooperative Month. The free document shredding will be available from 10 a.m. until noon at Fayette Electric located at 357 N. Washington St. in La Grange, and from 12:30 until 2:30 p.m. at Colorado Valley Telephone located at 4915 South US Hwy. 77, La Grange. New Ulm Oktoberfest will be held Saturday, Oct. 8, rain or shine at The New Ulm Fireman’s Park. This fun filled festival provides delight for all. Come sing and dance to authentic German music, taste the hearty foods and enjoy your cold drink of choice. There will also be a vendor area with local artisans, crafters and businesses offering a variety of items to take home. The gates will open at 10 a.m. German food, including sausage, sauerkraut, desserts and more will be available for sale along with wine and beer and non-alcoholic drinks. Scheduled to perform in the morning is Mason Marek, New Ulm singer-songwriter and Don Allphin from Sealy. Afternoon performances will feature authentic German music by Gene Hackemack and Band and Duane Wavra.
The Ledbetter Volunteer Fire Department is celebrating 75 years Saturday, Oct. 8 at the Ledbetter Firemen’s Park 4-6 p.m. bingo 5-7 p.m. Fried chicken dinner $12 per plate. A live auction starts at 6:30 p.m. All proceeds benefit the Ledbetter VFD and desserts will be sold by the Homemaker’s Club. Round Top Hermann Sons will have a country store.
Spacek Family Reunion
Descendants of F. J. Spacek (Fayetteville), Jan Spacek (Warrenton) and Josef Spacek (La Grange) will meet on Sunday, Oct. 9 for their annual family reunion to be held at SPJST Lodge 1 in Fayetteville. A catered meal will be served.
Roast Beef & Sausage Meal
A roast beef and sausage meal sponsored by St. John Lutheran Church of Ellinger will be served on Sunday, Oct. 9. Drive-thru starts at 11 a.m. continuing until 12:30 p.m. Tickets are $14. Call or text (979) 966-3515 for tickets.
Boy Scout Fundraiser
A meal fundraiser for local Boy Scouts will be held Monday, Oct. 10. The meal is drive-thru only from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church located at 800 N. Franklin St. in La Grange. The meal will consist of barbecue pork, tortillas, homemade cole slaw and beans. Tickets are available at Round Top State Bank and Fayette Savings Bank. LHS Sophomore Class Dinner
The La Grange High School sophomore class dinner is Oct. 14 beginning at 4:30 until 6 p.m. at the La Grange High School. A chicken fried pork cutlet, mac and cheese, corn, green beans, a roll and peach cobbler will be served. Tickets are $12. Purchase tickets online at the school website, or each sophomore will have tickets to sell. Ticket sales will end on Oct. 7.
