Feed the Need, a non-profit organization whose mission is to feed people physically and spiritually, will provide free burgers every Monday at 6:30 p.m. in La Grange at the south east corner of the courthouse square. Everyone is welcome.

The Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church at Hostyn received a $5,000 donation from theAustin Knights of Columbus Council No. 10333 to help with the reconstruction of the Church that was destroyed by an explosion and fire in June 2022.

The Fayette Public Library in La Grange will kick off its annual summer reading program in June. This year’s theme is “All Together Now.” To sign up for the program, children will need to have a card with the Fayette Public Library, which is free to all Fayette County residents.

William Mosby Eastland was born in Kentucky to Thomas Butler and Nancy Mosby Eastland. The Eastland, Dawson and Moore families were related and it is believed that after John Henry Moore migrated to Texas he wrote to his family and friends describing the great opportunities and possibilities to be found in Texas. William Mosby Eastland was the first to follow Moore to Texas. In 1833 he settled in the area, built a saw mill, and engaged in the lumber business. His brother Nicholas Washington Eastland, his nephew Robert Moore Eastland and his cousin Nicholas Mosby Dawson along with other family members soon followed William to Texas. John Henry Moore, William Mosby Eastland and Nicholas Mosby Dawson, were destined to play courageous and spectacular roles in the history of Texas. Eastland began his military service in July 1835 when he was appointed first lieutenant of a volunteer company under Colonel John Henry Moore in a three month campaign against the Waco and Tawakoni Indians. On his return, he joined the volunteer army of Texas and participated in the “Storming and Capture of Bexar” in December 1835.

Residents of Carmine overwhelmingly approved incorporation of their town. Results from voting at the Carmine Fire Station showed 90 approved the incorporation with only six voting against it. The 1,046-acre area approved for incorporation included 117 qualified voters. Fayette County Judge David M. Murray was to call an election to choose a slate of city officials. One of the first acts of the new government would be to make application for federal funds for a sewage system.
