Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek Reports on April Activity

Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports activities of Fayette County Sheriff Deputies for the month of April.

Sgt. Angela Lala filed charges on a sex offender that failed to register a change of address within 7 days of moving.

Sgt. Ron Naumann took a report of a burglary that occurred in the Warrenton area.A report was taken and the case remains under investigation at this time. Naumann also took a report of fraud that occurred in the Warrenton area in which a check was taken during the antique show and deposited with a fraudulent signature. The case remains under investigation.

Sgt. Ryan Meagher stopped a subject on a bicycle in the La Grange area for a traffic violation. After further investigation a male subject was found to be in possession of methamphetamine and was arrested. Meagher observed a male subject at a convenience store in Flatonia, Texas that was wanted on a full felony extradition warrant. After a brief struggle, the subject was arrested and charged with the warrant and an additional charge of Resisting Arrest.

Deputy Terry Guentert was dispatched to the Ammannsville area in reference to criminal mischief. A report was taken and the case remains under investigation.

Deputy James Ulbig responded to Interstate 10 westbound near mile marker 661 in reference to a vehicle fire. All occupants were able to exit the vehicle and no injuries were reported. The vehicle was removed from the roadway and a report was completed. Ulbig also stopped a vehicle in the La Grange area. After further investigation the driver was arrested and charged with unlawful use of criminal instrument and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Deputy Duane Meagher was assisting with an accident investigation on Interstate 10 westbound near mile marker 660 when a vehicle struck several traffic control devices, came through the accident scene, nearly striking a police vehicle. Meagher made contact with the driver who was found to have no driver’s license and no insurance. The vehicle was impounded.

Meagher took a report of fence damage that occurred in the Flatonia area. Information was gathered and a report was completed. The case remains open at this time. Meagher responded to Interstate 10 westbound near mile marker 658 in reference to a vehicle fire. After investigation, it was determined a Ford truck and camper trailer were a complete loss. There were no reported injuries. Meagher also responded to a house that was struck by lightning just south of Schulenburg. The Schulenburg Fire Department arrived on scene and was able to extinguish the fire before extensive damage was done. There were no reported injuries.

Detective Kenn Kretz arrested an individual from Austin, for an outstanding warrant for possession of a controlled substance.

Deputy Joe Gonzales transported a female subject from La Grange to a facility located in Georgetown to receive services for Mental Health. Deputy Gonzales also located a phone that was stolen from Walmart in La Grange, Texas. The phone pinged at an address near La Grange. Deputy Gonzales went to the address and was able to retrieve the stolen phone. The phone was returned to the rightful owner with assistance from the La Grange Police Department.

Deputy Chase Ceder took a report of a vehicle fire. After further investigation the fire was believed to be the result of an oil leak.

Deputy Holly Smith responded to an address near La Grange for a disturbance. After further investigation, a male subject was arrested for Public Intoxication and Accident Involving Damage to a Vehicle. Smith also responded to an address near West Point in reference to harassment. A report was completed and the case remains under investigation at this time.

Deputy Seth Nagel responded to an inquest that occurred in the Fayetteville area. Nagel received a call for a suspicious vehicle on St. James Church Rd. The vehicle was located and a male occupant inside of the vehicle was arrested for Public Intoxication.

Deputy Jared Michalec was dispatched to an accident that occurred near La Grange in which the driver struck a pole and fled the scene. Michalec was able to locate the vehicle and driver involved. The driver was arrested on multiple charges and was booked into the Fayette County Jail.

Jail Administrator Ed Sawyer reports that Fayette County Correction Officers booked in 52 individuals for the month of April. Sawyer reports that the Jail Staff transported 6 individuals to Texas Department of Criminal Justice Facilities throughout the State to begin serving their sentences for crimes committed in Fayette County.
