At Monday’s La Grange City Council meeting, the council heard a presentation from Brett Bowers with HUB International, a firm that specializes in managing medical benefits for public sector employees. The Council heard from a competing firm at their last meeting. The City expects to see a huge rate increase this year from its current insurance provider, the Texas Municipal League. Council will vote at the next meeting whether to hire a firm like HUB to search for lower rates and handle the City’s health insurance program.

Sonya Dugger-Williams is the new Postmaster of La Grange. Dugger-Williams began her Postal career as a Rural Carrier Associate (RCA) in Kingwood, TX, in 2001.

In the aftermath of new state rules on school library book content, La Grange ISD Superintendent Andy McHazlett gave an update to the school board last week on creating a system to be able to make sure that the books that are on the library shelves are appropriate.

The La Grange Knights of Columbus Chromcik Council No. 2574 will host their annual Memorial Scholarship Golf Tournament Friday, July 28 at Frisch Auf! Valley Country Club, morning and afternoon tee times. Two person scramble is $250 per team. All golfers are entitled to a free meal and drinks after the tournament at the La Grange Knights of Columbus Community Center. A live and silent auction and door prizes will be held. Craig Moreau, CEO of the Hospital Center of Excellence (HCOE), gave an update to the La Grange City Council Monday night. HCOE plans to take over the management of St. Mark’s Medical Center (SMMC) from Community Hospital Corporation (CHC) effective Sept. 1.

Representatives from the Fayette County Fair appeared at the La Grange City Council meeting on Monday, July 25, to request assistance for their food court construction project at the Fairgrounds. The current food court, known as the German-Czech Mart, was built in 1972.

Winedale Program Immerses College Kids in All Things Shakespeare This past weekend, July 21-23, marked the opening of performances by the students of the Shakespeare at Winedale program. Over the past few weeks, these students have prepared three Shakespeare plays for public viewing: “Hamlet,” “As You Like It” and “Cymbeline.” This season’s cast boasts one of the program’s largest groups of students in recent semesters, with 19 in total.

La Grange ISD offers comprehensive special education services to eligible students ages three through 21 years and to children from birth through age 21 years who have a hearing or visual impairment. Children from birth to age three with other disabilities will be referred to appropriate agencies for services. All referrals are considered confidential, and services are provided at no cost. The parent, legal guardian, or surrogate parent retains the right to refuse services and are provided other procedural safeguards under federal and state law.

M Caroline Cherry participated on the newly formed Flatonia Youth Track. She and her teammates traveled to Waco to compete in the regional track meet being held there.
