New La Grange City Manager Fred Bell got an unexpected boost for his first month on the job from State Comptroller Glenn Hegar. When the top Texas money man sent April sales tax rebates to cities, La Grange got $283,400 – more than half again its usual amount.

The City of La Grange will have roll off containers available to residential utility customers for hard to dispose of items. These containers will be located at the City Service Center inside the yard and customers will have to show their utility bill receipt to be able to discard their items. These containers will be available Monday through Friday, April 24-28 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and on Saturday, April 29 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. No tires, batteries, construction debris, paint or chemicals will be accepted. Only one set of mattresses per utility bill will be accepted. Refrigerators, freezers, and air conditioning units must be tagged certifying that the refrigerant has been removed by a certified technician. We’re hearing reports of damaged roofs and cars as Thursday night’s storm pounded wide portions of Fayette County with massive hail not seen here in years. .

A scary scene unfolded in Schulenburg on Thursday, April 20, as federal agents apprehended a fugitive following an hour-long standoff. The incident took place at a residence in the 100 block of Russek St.

The lightning storm that passed across the area Thursday night and Friday morning sparked a house fire in southern Fayette County. Lightning struck the home of Walter and Mary Ann Wotipka on Vacek Loop south of Schulenburg.
