The Schulenburg/Weimar Parents as Teachers (PAT) held a group connection safety training on Thursday, April 13, at the First United Methodist Church in Weimar. Hardy Hay, retired Houston Homicide Investigator and current Fayette County Sheriff’s Deputy, gave a presentation on situational awareness.

April Sales Tax Soars For City of La Grange

New La Grange City Manager Fred Bell got an unexpected boost for his first month on the job from State Comptroller Glenn Hegar. When the top Texas money man sent April sales tax rebates to cities, La Grange got $283,400 – more than half again its usual amount.

The City of La Grange will have roll off containers available to residential utility customers for hard to dispose of items. These containers will be located at the City Service Center inside the yard and customers will have to show their utility bill receipt to be able to discard their items. These containers will be available Monday through Friday, April 24-28 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and on Saturday, April 29 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. No tires, batteries, construction debris, paint or chemicals will be accepted. Only one set of mattresses per utility bill will be accepted. Refrigerators, freezers, and air conditioning units must be tagged certifying that the refrigerant has been removed by a certified technician. The lightning storm that passed across the area Thursday night and Friday morning sparked a house fire in southern Fayette County. Lightning struck the home of Walter and Mary Ann Wotipka on Vacek Loop south of Schulenburg.

Responders Worked Through Language Barrier to Help French-Speaking Accident Victims

A couple from Quebec who were riding a motorcycle suffered serious injuries in a crash in Schulenburg on Saturday, April 15.

Schulenburg Police Chief Troy Brenek said the couple were riding a 2021 Honda GL180 three-wheeled motorcycle. Brenek said they were part of a group of approximately 50-60 other motorcyclists from Quebec, Canada who were traveling through town.
