St. Mark’s Medical Center in La Grange is ceasing all operations and closing its doors, effective 7 a.m., October 12, 2023, announced the hospital’s Governing Board.

A local group’s effort to take over management of St. Mark’s Medical Center fell apart after a vote by the La Grange City Council Monday night, Oct. 2. St. Mark’s announced on Wednesday that the hospital would close effective Oct. 12.

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office and the La Grange Police Department are investigating a crime spree that took place between midnight and 3 a.m. on Monday, Oct.

Fayette County Judge Dan Mueller and Commissioners signed a proclamation on Sept. 28 declaring October as Czech Heritage Month in Fayette County. Members of The Texas Czech Heritage and Cultural Center (TCHCC) and the Fayette County Czech Heritage Society (FCCHS) were present for the signing.

Raphael’s Refuge, home of the Monument to the Innocents, is celebrating its 25th Anniversary. Pictured are two of the founding members, Mildred (Midge) Elam and Rex Moses. Midge, having recently stepped down from her position on the board, is still available to show visitors around the premises and share more about the ministry. Raphael’s Refuge is a place of healing, a place to honor babies who have died, from conception to 12 months. Peer counseling is available for those who have suffered the loss of a baby. La Grange city offices will be closed on Monday, Oct. 9, for the Columbus Day holiday. Waste Management’s residential and commercial garbage service will be on their regular schedule for the week of the Columbus Day Holiday.
