1976: Rains of 4-5 Inches Reported Across Area

May 11-14, 1976 Rainfall, a much-needed commodity at times, was suddenly becoming an excess item, with more of the wet stuff soaking an already saturated landscape. The latest heavy precipitation fell early Friday morning and then again during the day, with up to five inches reported west and east of La Grange.

US 77 Closure Begins May 18

The Texas Department of Transportation will be starting a project to rehabilitate the existing roadway on US 77 from SH 71 to FM 155 on Monday, May 18 - weather permitting. In order to perform a full depth reconstruction of the existing roadway, US 77 will be closed for approximately five months beginning on Monday, May 18. The limits of the road closure will be from SH 71 to BS 71E. Local traffic will still have access to US 77 within these limits. Please see the image below for the Detour Map.
The Texas Department of Transportation announced upcoming repairs to US 77 in La Grange (pictured above in red). Local traffic will be able to access the roadway during the closure. Through-traffic will be detoured via the 71 Bypass and Business 71, highlighted in black.

25th Annual Slavnost May 17 in LG

The Texas Czech Heritage and Cultural Center in La Grange invites the community to celebrate Czech culture, heritage, music, food, and remembrance during the 25th annual Slavnost “May Fest” on Sunday, May 17.
Guests will also enjoy a special performance by Pardubická Muzika from the Czech Republic from 1 to 2:30 p.m.

I Try Taming Some Wild Scarlet Sage

The other day, while moving some calves from one pasture to another, I noticed a splash of red color out of the corner of my eye. I was in a wooded area. I noticed a clump of scarlet sage that was blooming profusely under a cedar tree.
