US 77 Closure Begins May 18

The Texas Department of Transportation announced upcoming repairs to US 77 in La Grange (pictured above in red). Local traffic will be able to access the roadway during the closure. Through-traffic will be detoured via the 71 Bypass and Business 71, highlighted in black.

The Texas Department of Transportation will be starting a project to rehabilitate the existing roadway on US 77 from SH 71 to FM 155 on Monday, May 18 - weather permitting. In order to perform a full depth reconstruction of the existing roadway, US 77 will be closed for approximately five months beginning on Monday, May 18. The limits of the road closure will be from SH 71 to BS 71E. Local traffic will still have access to US 77 within these limits. Please see the image below for the Detour Map.

Hunter Industries, LTD. was awarded the contract with a bid of $4.34 million dollars. The road will be reopened once the roadway reconstruction is complete from SH 71 to BU 71E.

Motorists should expect possible traffic delays, are urged to use caution when driving through the work zone, and should keep the following tips in mind:

• Slow down and always follow posted work zone speed limits. Speeding is one of the major causes of work zone crashes. Remember, traffic fines double in work zones.

• Pay attention. Workers and heavy equipment may only be a few feet from passing vehicles.

• Be patient. Delays from roadway construction can be frustrating, but it only takes a few extra minutes to slow down for a work zone.
