Barn Collapses Near Engle, Trapping 25 Head of Cattle

A barn on the McBride place near Engle collapsed with 25 head of cattle trapped inside on Saturday as a strong storm swept across Fayette County.

Amazingly, all of the cattle survived. Property owner Debbie Darilek said the storm hit her property around 6:45 p.m. on Saturday. She wasn’t there at the time. Her brother Shannon McBride discovered the collapse.

“Shannon got there first and lifted up the barn with the tractor and seven of them got out,” Darilek said. “Then my son got there with a skid steer and helped Shannon lift it more. They took some tin off the barn and they started escaping from the top. We didn’t lose any, and we’re very thankful.”
