If Women Ran the World

A recent conversation among women drifted into one of those dangerous and delightful “what if” discussions. What would the world look like fifty years from now if women ruled every country? Or even half of the world’s largest nations? Would negotiations look different? Would there be fewer wars and more peace treaties? Would prices be more stable? Would healthcare systems work better? Would men be running more households while women ran governments and corporations? And what about birth rates, already declining in many countries? Would they continue to fall, or would family structures simply evolve into something new? Would education shift its focus? Would there be less bullying on playgrounds and fewer adults behaving like children in political debates? The biggest question raised was this: why do so many men still struggle to trust women in leadership? Is it fear of change? Fear of losing power? Fear that women might expect the same obedience and submission that women themselves were expected to give for centuries? Why is it still so difficult to see roles as being about talent instead of gender? Cooking, for example, has never held much appeal for me, and frankly, I’m not very good at it.
