Czech Heritage Society Officers Installed

The Fayette County Czech Heritage Society met on Sunday, Feb. 4, in the Hanslik Hall of the TCHCC in La Grange to celebrate their annual soup (polévka) social. An abundance of soups including chicken noodle, tortilla, potato, sauerkraut with sausage, vegetable beef soup and chili were enjoyed by those who joined.

State, U.S. Races Included in Final Political Forum

The Fayette County Republican Party will hold its final political forum of the primary election season this Saturday, Feb. 17, at the Fayette County Ag Building, located at 255 Svoboda Ln. in La Grange. The forum will take place from 1-4 p.m. Local party officials invited all of the candidates in the U.S. Congress race for District 10 and the State House race for District 85.

Update on Proposed LG Gin Distillery

The entrepreneurs who want to build a gin distillery in La Grange came to the City Council almost six months ago seeking approval to open their business in the downtown historic district. The City has yet to act on their request.

Texas Women’s League to Hold Spring Gala

The public is invited to attend the Texas Women’s League, TWL, 2024 Spring Gala Saturday, March 2 at the Fair Pavilion at the Fayette County Fair Grounds. All money raised at this year’s gala will fund twenty-nine nonprofit organizations serving Fayette County.

Primary Early Voting Begins Tuesday

Early voting for the March 5 Primary Elections begins on Tuesday, February 20. All early voting will take place in the Elections Office located at 275 Ellinger Road in La Grange.

Friends of the La Grange Railroad Museum will host a book-signing on Friday, Feb. 16, from 6-7 p.m. at the Depot Museum. Texas railroad historian Steve Goen will be at the depot, 260 N. Washington St., to sign copies of his latest book, “Passenger Trains of Texas – The Katy.” This 272page volume is his 12th book documenting the railroads of Texas. The public is invited and admission is free.

Feb. 15 Meeting Set to Discuss La Grange Relay for Life Planning

We all have connections to people whose lives have been impacted by cancer. Relay for Life of La Grange has been hosting a local event in La Grange for many years, to support the American Cancer Society. A small committee and handful of teams have been trying to keep this event ongoing for our family, friends, and community. Unfortunately, due to lack of participation and community involvement, this may come to an end.

Hundreds Attend Childcare Conference in LG

On Feb. 3, some 217 childcare providers from more than 14 surrounding cities registered to attend the Multi- County Child Care Conference sponsored by Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service. The event was held at the Randolph Recreation Center in La Grange, Texas, and was hosted by the Child Care Advisory Committee and County Extension Agents for Family & Community Health from Austin, Fayette, and Wharton Counties.
