The proposed new electric generating plant to be built in Fayette County between La Grange and Fayetteville would not pollute the atmosphere or destroy the land, according to Lower Colorado River Authority General Manager Charles Herring. He explained that federal and state environmental protection agencies would not allow the construction of such a plant, nor would the LCRA and the City of Austin want to do so. He went on to say that contact had been made with Houston Natural Gas Company, which had announced it was looking at building a coal slurry pipeline from the Rocky Mountains to the Texas Gulf Coast that could potentially supply the plant. Herring also told The Record the Camp Swift plant site wasn’t feasible because the federal government owned the land and it wasn’t large enough to accommodate construction of the cooling lake associated with the project.

The John Everett Chapter, DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution), and the Robert Rankin Chapter No. 62, SAR (Sons of the American Revolution), presented Jim Duffin, whose residence is located in Schulenburg, with the American flag display certificate for May.
