Schulenburg Officer OK After Crashing Vehicle in a Pursuit
A Schulenburg Police Officer crashed his patrol vehicle while chasing a stolen pickup into Lavaca County early Thursday morning, May 23.
The pursuit began in Schulenburg around 12:50 a.m. Schulenburg Police Chief Troy Brenek reported that Officer Byron Poe was on patrol when he checked the license plate of a Chevy Silverado. He discovered that it was reported stolen. Poe activated his lights and tried stopping the vehicle. A chase ensued out of town and towards the Praha area. The pursuit continued south into Lavaca County and onto CR 255.
Poe radioed for assistance, Brenek said, and Lavaca County Sheriff’s Deputies were on their way when the crash happened. Brenek said Poe was unfamiliar with the area and crashed at a turn in the road.
Brenek said Poe sustained minor injuries but he will be OK. Brenek said the stolen vehicle later crashed about six miles away. The suspect fled on foot and remains at-large.
