Bluebonnet EC Celebrates 85 Years of Service

About 500 Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative members and guests filled The Silos on 77 event center in Giddings on Tuesday, May 14, for the coop’s annual meeting. Those at the meeting enjoyed live music, received reports highlighting Bluebonnet’s successes during 2023 and early 2024, re-elected two directors and took home door prizes.

Pat Settle Receives Community Service Award

The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) Community Service Awards provides a unique opportunity for chapters and states to provide a non-competitive recognition to worthy individuals and organizations for outstanding voluntary service. The Smith-McMillan Chapter, NSDAR, La Grange, District VII recently awarded the NSDAR Community Service Award to Patricia “Pat” Settle during their April 20, meeting at the Grand Fayette Hotel and Restaurant in Fayetteville.

Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter Update

As of May 18, the total intake for the Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter is 659: 282 dogs and 362 cats in need. As of May 18, the shelter has 121 animals in care: 58 dogs/63 cats. This number includes animals in the facility, in foster care for medical, waiting on available space, or awaiting transport to rescue partner.

County to Hire New Animal Control Officer

Fayette County Commissioners Court approved a new position for a part-time animal control officer at the Sheriff’s Office. Chief Deputy Randy Noviskie of the Sheriff’s Office told the Commissioners at last Thursday’s meeting that the former animal control officer, Charlie Jakobeit, had been promoted to jail sergeant.

New Private School Coming to County

Christian Covenant Academy, a new K-12 private school, will open campuses in Schulenburg and Weimar this fall. President and CEO Michelle Davis said the school will offer a rigorous academic program rooted in Biblical Christianity.
