Five Inches of Rain Sells for $850 at the St. John Picnic
Auctioneer Joe Orsak calls out the bids for an unusual item in the auction at the St. John Picnic last Thursday: a rain gauge with five inches of rain. The St. John pastor, Monsignor John Peters, donated the item. Peters said he prayed for rain and predicted five inches would fall this month for the winning bidder. The rain sold for $850.
Fire Damages Flatonia Cafe
A fire last week damaged the Jamie’s Cafe at the Flatonia Livestock barn, but Monday’s livestock auction went on as scheduled. “We had a fire inside the cafe and we were blessed that nothing was damaged in the office area or the auditorium but unfortunately the cafe suffered the worst,” Flatonia Livestock posted on social media.
Beryl Slides East, Skirting Fayette
Hurricane Beryl, which slammed parts of the Caribbean and Mexico finally made landfall in Texas Monday morning as a Category One storm. The first bands of the storm brought some light rain to Fayette County Sunday afternoon but by Monday morning significant rainfall was mostly east of La Grange. Parts of northeastern Fayette County did get more substantial rain and wind. The Houston area was hit hard.

The La Grange Senior Citizen Activity Center Inc. will host game day on Thursday, July 11 from 9 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. at the City of La Grange Randolph Recreation Center. Meth Located During Traffic Stop
Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports that on June 21, at approximately 8:43 p.m., Deputy Cody Williams was sitting stationary in or about the 666-mile marker area of I-10, observing westbound travel from the center median in Engle, Fayette County. Deputy Williams observed a silver Honda commit a traffic violation.
LG Elementary Student Selected For Leadership Academy
Gage Stott, a student at La Grange Elementary School in La Grange ISD, has been selected to travel to Dallas/Fort Worth to participate in a summer 2024 Lone Star Leadership Academy camp. Gage’s selection was based on his outstanding academic success, demonstrated leadership ability, involvement in school and community activities, and a nomination from his teacher, Tenille Adamcik.
