As of Sept. 14, the total intake for 2024 for the Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter is 1232: 542 dogs and 690 cats in need. As of Sept. 14, the shelter has 105 animals in care: 39 dogs/66 cats. This number includes animals in the facility, in foster care for medical, waiting on available space, or awaiting transport to rescue partner.

Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports that on Sept. 18, at approximately 1:50 p.m. Deputy Jared Michalec was dispatched to a residence on Zilss Rd. in the Winchester area in regards to a subject breaking windows on a residence that he was Criminally Trespassed from previously.

The U.S. Department of Education recognized 356 schools as the 2024 cohort of the National Blue Ribbon Schools, including 31 schools in Texas. This prestigious recognition highlights schools that excel in academic performance or make significant strides in closing achievement gaps among different student groups.

The Carmine Chamber of Commerce had a ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday Sept. 20 to commemorate the expansion of Busted Oak Cellars new event facility. The spacious air conditioned building is ready to host events such as weddings, business mixers, and community gatherings. It has a wine bar, bathrooms, and vaulted ceilings. The ribbon cutting was well attended by the community. Pat, Sherrie, and Kevin Cooke of Busted Oak Cellars did the honors of cutting the ribbon. Fifth graders at La Grange Elementary got to hang out with some special visitors this week. Pancho and Lefty, a pair of trained alpacas from Texas Party Animals, visited the school on Monday, Sept. 23, for the school’s “Red, White and Blue, Mental Health and You Day.”

The City of La Grange plans to replace all the street signs in town over the next few years. “We’re looking at doing them in purple,” said City Manager Jack Thompson at the City Council meeting Monday night.
