The City of La Grange is testing out a new color scheme for street signs in town. City crews erected a test sign at the corner of Eblin and Lester Streets. One variation is purple with gold lettering and the other is purple with white lettering. City Secretary Janet Bayer said a few residents have already called City Hall to inquire about the street sign, which shows Eblin St. for both sides of the intersection. The City of La Grange plans to replace all the street signs in town over the next few years.

“We’re looking at doing them in purple,” said City Manager Jack Thompson at the City Council meeting Monday night.

City crews recently installed the first one at the corner of Eblin St. and Lester St.

“There are two variations,” Thompson said. “One is purple with white lettering, and one is purple with gold lettering.”

Thompson said city staff are studying the reflectivity of the two variations at day and night to see if one stands out better than the other.

Thompson said the City is trying out the purple signs to promote La Grange I.S.D. school colors.

“I think they look cool,” Thompson said. “It’s about community support.”
