Twitter Headquarters is Now Next Door

One of the largest and most influential social media companies in the world is moving just down the road from Fayette County.

Forbes magazine reported this week that X, formerly known as Twitter, has quietly updated documentation to list its headquarters at an address in Bastrop.

The move came amid a lawsuit between X owner Elon Musk and CNN anchor Don Lemon over a canceled partnership with X. Musk’s lawyers asked a California judge to change the location of the lawsuit to Texas, citing the headquarters move.

Musk announced back in July that he planned to move the headquarters of two of his companies SpaceX and X, to Texas. At the time, Musk took issue with California Governor Gavin Newsom signing a law that would ban schools from notifying parents if children changed the way they identify their gender at school.

“This is the final straw,” Musk said at the time. “Because of this law and the many others that preceded it, attacking both families and companies, SpaceX will now move its HQ from Hawthorne, California, to Starbase, Texas.”

Starbase is the location of SpaceX’s launch site and industrial facility near Brownsville.

Musk announced the same day that X’s headquarters would move to Austin. The social media company ultimately landed in Bastrop, though.

Bastrop is already the home of a SpaceX facility that manufactures equipment for its Starlink satellite internet service. The Boring Company, another Musk enterprise, is also headquartered near Bastrop. Those facilities are located on property along FM 1209 across the Colorado River from the town of Utley.

In an interview with CBS Austin earlier this week, Bastrop City Manager Sylvia Carrillo- Trevino indicated the X headquarters would be located on that complex as well.

“It’s natural that he would begin to co-locate some of his other companies on those parcels,” she said.
