Giddings Man Arrested For Evading Arrest

Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports that on Sept. 18, at approximately 1:50 p.m. Deputy Jared Michalec was dispatched to a residence on Zilss Rd. in the Winchester area in regards to a subject breaking windows on a residence that he was Criminally Trespassed from previously.

The suspect reportedly left the residence before the deputy’s arrival. The Fayette County Undercover Narcotics Unit and Sergeant Investigator Angela Lala arrived in the area to assist and later located the suspected vehicle travelling on FM 448 towards Lee County. Investigators followed the vehicle and the Lee County Sheriff’s Office was notified.

Upon arrival in Lee County, Texas DPS Troopers attempted to stop the suspected vehicle, which then evaded officers and refused to stop. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office and Giddings Police Department also joined in the pursuit.

The suspected vehicle was successfully spiked by a Lee County Investigator and then again by a Giddings Police Officer. The vehicle soon came to rest in the ditch area near the railroad tracks just south of Giddings. The suspect fled the vehicle but was quickly apprehended by Lee County Sheriff Garrett Durrenberger and other responding units.

The suspect, identified as 41-year-old Michael Sanders of Giddings was taken into custody by Texas DPS Troopers for Evading Arrest. The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office will seek warrants on Sanders for the misdemeanor charges that occurred in Fayette County.
