Juneteenth Celebrations Kick Off in La Grange
A Pre-Juneteenth Celebration took place on the Courthouse Square in La Grange Saturday, June 8, pictured above. Festivities included speakers, Gospel singers and a youth fasion show. The Unity in the Community Juneteenth Committee will host three days of events in La Grange this weekend, beginning with a Gospel Night at Randolph Center on Friday, June 13, beginning at 6 p.m. A Juneteenth Parade will take place in La Grange on Saturday starting at 11 a.m. at H-E-B, followed by a meal at the Randolph Center.
Former LG Resident and Apollo 8 Astronaut, William Anders, Who Took Famous Picture of Earth, Killed in Small Plane Crash
William Alison “Bill” Anders was the son of U.S. Navy Commander and Mrs. Arthur F. “Tex” Anders and nephew of E.F. “Smiles” Anders of La Grange. According to an article written several years ago by local historian Carolyn Heinsohn, Anders was born in Hong Kong on October 17, 1933 while his father was stationed in the Far East.
