Shakespeare at Winedale’s 2024 Summer Class takes the stage this July with performances of Shakespeare’s The Merry Wives of Windsor, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and Othello. Performances begin July 18 and run through Aug. 11. Performances are Thursdays-Sundays at 7:30 p.m. with matinees on Saturdays and Sundays at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10 and may be ordered online at www.shakespeare-winedale.org.

Bypass Fight Heads to the Courthouse

Fayette County Commissioners Court heard from several citizens opposed to the US 77 Bypass project at their meeting last Thursday, July 11. Jacob Aswad, who owns property on Creamer Creek Rd., said the Texas Department of Transportation’s plan to build a bypass around the Bluff south of La Grange would Aswad said TxDOT’s plan was “poorly publicized.” Aswad said he did not know until recently about the two public meetings TxDOT held in La Grange last year.

Pavel’s Visit: Spotlight on Security and Foreign Affairs

Czech President Petr Pavel’s visit to La Grange on Saturday, July 13, brought with it one of the largest VIP security operations ever witnessed in Fayette County. More than a dozen uniformed officers from the United States Secret Service, Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, La Grange Police Department and other agencies stood watch during the proceedings.

RT-C ISD To Hold Early Childhood Screening

The Round Top Independent School District, in cooperation with the Burton Special Services Cooperative, will screen 3 and 4 year-old children in the school district for the Early Childhood Program on Wednesday, Aug. 7 between the hours of 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. at the Round Top Elementary School located at 608 N. Washington St.

Governments Approach Hurricane Differently

Theresa Von Rosenberg spoke at Monday’s La Grange City Council meeting to ask the Council about the status of the City’s stormwater drainage improvement project. But first, she thanked the City for remaining open on Monday as the edge of Hurricane Beryl passed over the area.

“I’m so thankful for y’all guys, because y’all are here working while the County is taking off because the weather is bad,” Von Rosenberg said. “But the weather wasn’t bad, thank the Lord.”

LGISD Offers Special Education Services

La Grange ISD offers comprehensive special education services to eligible students ages three through 21 years and to children from birth through age 21 years who have a hearing or visual impairment. Children from birth to age three with other disabilities will be referred to appropriate agencies for services.
