The Boehnke Reunion was held at the Muldoon Mercantile Building on Saturday, Oct. 5. A meal of fried chicken with numerous sides and desserts provided by family members was served and enjoyed by all.
Special recognitions were given to Lillie Boehnke of Schulenburg, celebrating the age of 95 years young, and Blake Knox, age 4, of Cuero for being the “Wisest” and “Youngest” in attendance. Out-of-town guests traveled from as far as Rockdale, Magnolia, Friendswood, San Antonio, and Cuero to Muldoon to enjoy a day of celebrating being part of a big family.
For all those with Boehnke family connections make plans for next year’s gathering. The next reunion has been scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 4, 2025, so go ahead and mark your calendars now.
Pin Oak Clean Up
The historic Pin Oak Cemetery is planning a cleanup day on Saturday, Oct. 19 from 9 a.m.-noon. They would love help from any historic/community minded people to help wrangle the grass under control and to help in the location of graves. This cemetery has a very deep history and a small group of hard-working relatives and history buffs have been working hard to preserve our local history and connection to the past.
Following the cleanup there will be a short meeting and a potluck lunch. This is another chance to make some connections with the Muldoon community and help out a wonderful historic cemetery.
Fall Round Up
The Fall Round Up is not far off and The Stray Gathering Cowboy Church, located at the corner of FM 154 and FM 2237 behind the park, have been hard at it getting ready for their major fundraiser of the year on Saturday Oct. 26 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. This will be a great opportunity to come out and not only support this up and growing little church, but also a great chance to meet some of your neighbors.
This list of activities seems to be growing with pony rides, a competition dummy roping for buckles, games for everyone including some for the adults, like the cake/dessert walk. The chuckwagon will be pulling in and will be ready with lunch for only $10 for adults and kids eat free and food always tastes better cooked outside.
Adding to the fun will be a live auction at 1 p.m. There will be lots of interesting things to bid on and maybe you can win the bid if yours is the highest. You can peruse the selection that will be going across the auction block while you enjoy all the other activities. This could be a chance for some friendly competition for some real treasures.
Another exciting happening on that Saturday is the heifer raffle. Grab your tickets from any SG2C member for a chance to win a beautiful young heifer calf. Cattle prices are high, so grab your chance now to get in on the fun. The raffle will be held at the end of the Fall Round Up. You need not be present to win.
Out and About
James and I traveled recently to the Fort Worth area to make a visit to the Texas Civil War Museum prior to its closing. It is a private museum that is only open on Thursday, Friday and Saturday and is scheduled to permanently close on Oct. 31. This was a fascinating museum with the equal displays of both the North and the South. This was an impressive collection of all sorts of things from the Civil War. We saw Grant’s coat and one of his cigars and Lee’s pocketknife, along with uniforms from a wide variety of people who fought.
It brought history to life with knowing that these items belonged to a specific person and was used in a specific battle. We highly recommend, if you can to make the trip, go up to Fort Worth before the end of the month.
John and Debra Schwartzenburg had a little outing to Fredericksburg and James and I were able to connect up with them to have lunch on our long way back home from Fort Worth.
