After days of worrying and endless forecasts, Hurricane Beryl slammed into other parts of Texas causing flooding and power outages to at least 3 million in the state, but the eye passed just to the east of Fayette County, mostly sparing us any effects. The storm did dump about two inches in some eastern parts of the county (and none in western Fayette). There was some strong winds Monday, enough, apparently to knock the above decorative longhorn down along the Warrenton highway, but not much else.
A Monday’s City Council meeting Main Street manager, Caleb Parks gave an update on his department’s recent activities. Parks said his office is working with LG Print Co. build two apartment units on the second floor of their building on the Courthouse Square. Parks said the owners plan to offer them as short-term rentals. Parks said a mixed-use development such as this helps to support other downtown businesses such as restaurants and bars.
