The Sacred Heart Altar Society members met on Monday, Oct. 7 in the Msgr. Harry Mazurkiewicz Parish Center. The meeting was opened with a prayer followed by the standard reports provided by the treasurer, secretary and assistant treasurer. One card of thanks was read to members in appreciation for remembrances received. Nine ladies attended the meeting.

The sixth graders from St. Rose of Lima Catholic School in Schulenburg enjoyed a wonderful field trip to the Texas Czech Heritage & Cultural Center in La Grange on Tuesday, Oct. 1. They enjoyed learning about Czech traditions, the language, and culture. After touring the TCHCC Main Building, Museum, Library, and Wallachian Belfry, they toured the Czech Music Museum and SPJST Hall. Then they enjoyed eating some famous homemade czech-style chicken noodle soup, sandwich, kolache, crackers and bread. Closing out the day, students toured the Czech Village, observed a working printing press, shelled and grinded corn, and finally watched a hay press and Sawmill run. What a fabulous day it was. Stymied for 44 minutes, the Weimar Wildcats blew La Grange’s Leopards apart with two passing bombs at Weimar on Friday to produce a shocking 14-13 victory that left them perched atop the District 25AA standings with a 3-0 record. It was the burly Wildcats’ sixth straight win for the season and by far the closest they came to losing a game. Early in the game, the Leps dominated the field, scoring twice on passes from Neal Miller to Johnny Johnson. The La Grange team stonewalled the Wildcats throughout the second half as Weimar repeatedly got good field position. The clock showed 4:37 when Wildcat Steve Anders intercepted his second pass. Otis Henry took a handoff, dropped back and heaved a mighty throw to Larry Henry, who simply took the ball away from three La Grange defenders down at the 36, making a pass that travelled at least 50 yards in the air.

Feed the Need Mission has been operating in the La Grange community for almost four years. Every October that means we are gearing up for our Gobble kit campaign.

Twenty-three students from La Grange High School were recently inducted as new members of the National Honor Society. Members were selected by the chapter’s faculty council for meeting high standards of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. “We are very proud to recognize these outstanding members of our student body. National Honor Society members are chosen for and then expected to continue their exemplary contributions to the school and community,” said Heather Muesse, chapter adviser. The National Honor Society ranks as one of the oldest and most prestigious national organizations for high school students; the La Grange High School chapter has been active since 1990. There are chapters in more than 16,000 high schools and, since 1921, millions of students have been selected for membership.
