A Visit to Fayette County’s New Trump Burger Location the Day After the Election
Trump Burger, a new restaurant in Flatonia, opened on Election Day, Nov. 5.
Bart and Dana Blakelock partnered with Eddie Hawa, the owner of the original Trump Burger Cafe in Bellville, to open the location in Flatonia. It occupies the former Wine Haus building on Main Street.
“My wife brought me over to Bellville for my birthday back in May,” Blakelock said. “While we were eating there, I had a wild idea run through my head that Flatonia needed one locally. So I got in contact with Eddie the same day.”
The place is festooned with American flags and life-size photos of President Donald Trump.
“The reception has been great,” Blakelock said on Wednesday. “We had a really big crowd last night. Last night we had folks from Oklahoma, California, Australia and Germany in here. We met a lot of new people.”
The Record visited the restaurant on Wednesday, the day after Trump won the election. About 20 people stood in the line to order at noon. The dining room was filled with folks at the community-style tables with few empty seats. Televisions hanging on the walls carried Fox News coverage of the election. They serve the burgers with the name “Trump” branded onto the bun.
“Trump won, baby, we’ve got a new President,” Blakelock said.
Hawa was there to help out in the kitchen. At one point, he walked out in the dining room and cheered, “We won! We won!” The crowd answered back with a chant of “USA! USA!”
The menu features hamburgers, cheeseburgers, chicken sandwiches and wings.
“We’re going to have a small appetizer menu,” Blakelock said. “In the future, we’re going to do some evening meals. We might have a steak night or a seafood night.”
Right now they’re open 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday.
“We’re not really sure how we’re going to set the hours yet,” Blakelock said. “On the weekends we may stay open later.”
He said may get a beer and wine license in the future as well.
