Saturday, Fayette County Deputy Cody Williams conducted a traffic stop on I-10 near Flatonia. During the traffic stop, Deputy Williams requested consent to search the vehicle and Champion denied consent. Officer Byron Powe with the Schulenburg Police Department arrived on scene and deployed K9 Semper. who alerted to the odor of narcotics coming from the vehicle. Deputy Williams conducted a probable-cause search of the vehicle and located a black trash bag behind the driver’s seat. Inside the bag were nine bundles containing over twenty pounds of methamphetamine. Arrested were 24 yr. old Roland Champion Jr. and 22 yr. old Emily Guadalupe Mendoza, both of San Antonio.

The inaugural recipients of the Wanda Johnson Beaudry Stanzel (WJBS) Memorial Scholarship have been officially announced. This scholarship, established by Ted Stanzel in partnership with the Stanzel Family Foundation, commemorates the legacy of Wanda Johnson Beaudry Stanzel, who passed away in 2021.

Last Thursday the Fayette County Commissioners Court received a post-election report on the primary runoffs from Fayette County Elections Administrator Donna Macik. Macik presented the court with official vote totals that changed slightly from the unofficial results released on election night.

The hospital in La Grange will undergo an inspection next week and hopefully reopen sometime thereafter, according to Fayette County Judge Dan Mueller. Progressive Health Group of Mississippi, which purchased the hospital last year, had initially hoped to reopen the facility in the first quarter of this year.
