Co-ops To Host 5th Annual Document Shred Day Oct. 7

Fall is a busy time, and October is a particularly eventful month with school, community and sports activities in full swing. It’s also when all cooperatives celebrate National Coop Month. Celebrating Co-op Month, really means we are celebrating you – our members! After all, our co-op wouldn’t exist without you. Our core business purpose is to serve as your electricity provider, but the larger mission of the co-op is to help make our corner of the world a better place. “Concern for Community” is one of seven guiding principles that all co-ops share. Similar to how our wires run through our service territory, our concern for community flows through all of our decisions––because being a co-op means being a responsible partner and good neighbor. Fayette Electric Cooperative and Colorado Valley Telephone Cooperative work to help our community thrive through initiatives led by our employees and local board that’s comprised of neighbors who live right here in our community. Because we’re local, we understand our community’s unique needs and strive to help meet them. The word “cooperative” is close to “cooperation,” meaning people working together towards a common goal—mutually benefitting one another and the larger community. That’s the essence of the cooperative spirit. Our employees and member-elected board members are invested in the community in which they live and serve.

Ring In Constitution Week with DAR Smith-McMillan Chapter This Saturday

Sept. 18-24, 2022 marks the 67th year the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) will celebrate Constitution Week. To honor the anniversary of the signing of the Constitution, the Smith-McMillan Chapter of DAR will hold a Ringing of the Bells ceremony. We ring the bells to celebrate the signing of the Constitution. On Sept. 17, 1787, the delegates of the Constitutional Convention signed the Constitution. As the delegates were leaving the Pennsylvania State House at 4 p.m. (Eastern Standard Time), the bells were rung to signify the signing of the Constitution. Constitution Week began in 1955 when the President General of the DAR, Gertrude S. Carroway, adopted a project to promote the observance of the U. S. Constitution with a memorial week beginning on the anniversary of the signing of this document, Sept. 17. The DAR petitioned the U.S. Congress to dedicate Sept. 17-23 of each year to the commemoration of Constitution Week. Congress adopted the resolution, and on Aug. 2, 1956, President Dwight D Eisenhower signed it into Public Law #915.
