Spring Has Sprung at the Animal Shelter

Over the last week the Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter took in 36 dogs and cats in need. Spring has sprung and the kittens and puppies are rolling in. If you’ve ever considered fostering or adopting, now is the time. Maybe summer brings a good time to acclimate a new furry family member to your pack.

Every day, Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter fosters and volunteers help save these lives. They also meet new friends, see old friends, learn new skills, and a ton of canine and feline cuddles. The Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter offers a discount voucher program to the citizens of Fayette County for the spay or neuter of family pets. The shelter also has a microchip special for Fayette County pets: $15 per pet or free if your pet is spayed/neutered. A microchip increases the chances of being reunited with your pet by 73%. As of April 4, the total intake for the shelter for 2025 is 379 dogs and cats in need: 206 dogs and 173 cats in need. There are 104 animals in care: 71 dogs and 33 cats. This number includes animals in the facility, in foster care for medical, waiting on available space, or awaiting transport to a rescue partner.
