Beginning Tuesday, Sept. 15, Round Top Festival Institute will be accepting applications for its Volunteer and Docent Program. The program features a six-week course covering the history of the Institute and the distinctive features of the Festival Concert Hall and campus buildings. Library and Museum Collections Curator, Lamar Lentz, will lead the classes. Course dates will be Sept. 15 and 20, Oct. 13, Nov. 3 and 17, and Dec. 8. A private applicators license is required by the state to purchase restricted use pesticides. To obtain a license, it is mandatory to attend a pesticide applicator training and pass a 100-question test. This course will teach participants proper procedures for applying pesticides. This is the training only. Testing procedures will be explained during the training.

Hermann Sons Rutersville Meeting Hermann Sons Rutersville will hold their September membership meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 2 beginning at 7 p.m. at the Rutersville Lodge. The main meal provided by the lodge will be pork ribs. Bring your favorite side dish or dessert to share.

The Fayette County Community Theatre (FCCT) presents ‘Now and Then’by Sean Grennan Friday, September 18 and Saturday, September 19 at the famous Freyburg Hall outside of Schulenburg. This heartfelt romantic comedy is set in a 1981 bar in Chicago.

The Fayette County Historical Commission and The Randolph High School Alumni Association are dedicating the new Randolph School historical marker at 3 p.m. on Saturday, September 5th at 653 East Pearl Street in La Grange.

As part of the ongoing America 250 celebrations across this area, all Fayette County Veterans are being celebrated as honorary Parade Marshals, along with Fayette County Judge Dan Mueller, for this year’s Fayette County Fair Parade which begins Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in downtown La Grange.

A strong thunderstorm swept over parts of Fayette County Friday afternoon. The storm downed trees in La Grange and knocked out power in La Grange and the rural areas south of the city.
