Round Top Festival Institute Opens Volunteer, Docent Applications
Beginning Tuesday, Sept. 15, Round Top Festival Institute will be accepting applications for its Volunteer and Docent Program. The program features a six-week course covering the history of the Institute and the distinctive features of the Festival Concert Hall and campus buildings. Library and Museum Collections Curator, Lamar Lentz, will lead the classes. Course dates will be Sept. 15 and 20, Oct. 13, Nov. 3 and 17, and Dec. 8. Marburger Farm Expansion
There is a new building going up at Marburger Farm. Owner and CEO John Sughrue has updated us telling us that the big building currently being constructed is a 7,500 sq. ft. exhibition hall which will showcase some of their finest dealers. It will also be a very flexible building which can be used for conferences, weddings, or just about anything that can be imagined.
The new building is contemporary in nature but derivative of the heritage and historical designs of the past. A metal roof and reclaimed wood will be key design features along with the extraordinary woodworking craftsmanship found in rural German heritage communities. At the same time, contemporary materials such as “sky glass” are to be utilized in the façade which speaks to their forwardlooking vision. Their goal is to create a dynamic vibrant venue which reflects pride in past heritage but also celebrating what the future holds. This building will complete their Texaslike town square where green space is surrounded by an original dance hall, saloon, general store, the original Marburger Farmhouse and their new Texas Food Pavilion. The next meeting of the Pioneer Unit Herb Society will be held on Thursday, Sept. 10, at 9:30 a.m. at Brenham Presbyterian Church at 900 South Jackson Street in Brenham. Mr. Henry Flowers will be doing a presentation about Madalene Hill. She was very instrumental in creating the gardens of Festival Hill.
The unit meets at 9:30 a.m. on the second Thursday of every month. Every meeting features interesting and informative programs with expert speakers on a wide range of topics that deal with herbs and gardening. Each meeting is followed by a luncheon with a variety of thematic dishes usually prepared by the members. Round Top Rifle Hall
The next Monday Night Burger Social will be held on Labor Day, Sept. 7, at the Round Top Rifle Hall, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. This is a community event, and all are welcome. Round Top DYD Club
The DYD Annual Membership Appreciation Dinner will be held on Sept. 10 beginning at 5:30 p.m., with a short business meeting for members only at 6 p.m. at Busted Oak Cellars. Everyone is encouraged to attend.
St. Paul in Shelby
St. Paul Lutheran Church in Shelby invites everyone to join them on Sept. 27 at 8 a.m. for their annual service in their Historic Church, which is located across from their main sanctuary at 6814 Skull Creek Road. There will be no airconditioning so please bring a fan. After the service, there will be fellowship, bingo, and burgers in the main education building. Booster Club Fundraiser
On Saturday, Sept. 26, the 3rd Annual Round Top-Carmine Booster Club Shrimp Boil Fundraiser will be held at the Round Top Rifle Hall beginning with a 5 p.m. happy hour and 6 p.m. meal. There will also be a live and silent auction, a DJ, and entertainment. Proceeds support the RT-C ISD Athletics. Hermann Sons Life
On Tuesday, Aug. 25, the monthly meeting of Hermann Sons Life was held at the Round Top Rifle Hall. All officers and active members were present. Lila Garlin, President, called the meeting to order with the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. Mary Rauch, Treasurer, reported on the Hermann Sons donation to Round Top-Carmine ISD teachers’ breakfast at Bethlehem Lutheran Church Educational building which was held on Aug. 17, with 57 teachers and staff in attendance. It was a great morning with good food, door prizes, goodie bags and lots of fellowship. Melanie Rauch, Community Coordinator, presented her report. Linda Mattocks, Agent, presented, as well. Two new members were welcomed. Celebrating August birthdays were Jo Ann Ullrich and Roy Piper. Celebrating anniversaries were Judy and Roy Piper, 59 years and Barton and Lila Garlin, 60 years. Attendance prizes were won by Ray Ulllrich, Jeanette Hancock, Sophie Rauch, Bob Porter and Randy Wied. Door prizes were given by Bob and Betty Porter and Lana Limmer. The winners were Lila Garlin, Judy Piper, Carmen Ebner, Mario Trevino, Linda Mattocks, La Verne Albers, Melanie Rauch, Max Baranowski and Leonard Meinkowsky. Playing cards went to Randy Wied and Melanie Rauch. The meeting concluded with the reading of Washington’s prayer for America from June 8, 1783, which was presented at our country’s 75th National Day of Prayer and read by Jeanette Schoenst. A delicious lunch with refreshments was enjoyed by all. The next meeting will be held on Sept. 22.
Round Top Lions Club
The Round Top Lions Club met on Aug. 27 at JW’s in Carmine. Suzanne Ellis called the meeting to order. The first order of business was to move all future Lions Club meeting dates to the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month. It was also decided to donate to The Leader Dog program. Plastic bottle caps, which the Club collects, are being recycled in Mexico for donation to cancer patients. Eyeglasses are also collected by the Lions Club to be recycled and given to individuals who need them. Donations from the community can be given to a Lion Club member or taken to the Round Top Family Library or Bethlehem Lutheran Church. The Lions Club continues to help with both the eye and hearing tests at the Round Top Elementary school. All members were encouraged to take certification training to help with this program. The group also viewed and approved the t-shirt logo for the upcoming Turkey Trot, which was designed by Ken Page. Pam Langford encouraged those in attendance to continue to seek sponsorships for the Turkey Trot. The Lions Club welcomes us all become new members of Round Top Lions Club.
Round Top Family Library Round Top Family Library will be closed Monday, Sept. 7, in observance of Labor Day. Regular hours will resume on Tuesday, Sept. 8.
It’s not too late to purchase raffle tickets in support of Round Top Family Library’s annual Gala and enter for a chance to win one of three prizes. Raffle tickets are available at the library or online through the library’s website. Winning tickets will be drawn during the Gala on Sept. 12. Winners do not need to be present.
Round Top Family Library’s annual Gala will be held Saturday, Sept. 12, bringing together friends, supporters and community members for an evening of dinner, fellowship, a live auction and a celebration of the library’s accomplishments. The Gala is an important fundraiser for the library and helps support its programs, collections and services throughout the year. RTFL thanks everyone who has helped make the evening possible, as well as the many individuals and organizations who continue to support the library. The library looks forward to celebrating another successful year and the community it serves.
