County Leaders Debate Audit Practices

Fayette County Commissioners hired local CPA Greg Trlicek to perform audits of each County department that handles money. Every year, the County hires an outside accountant to conduct an overall audit of the County’s finances, which is required by state law.

Newton Picked For Vacant LG Council Seat

The La Grange City Council appointed Kim Newton to the vacant City Council seat for Ward 3 at their May 8 meeting. Newton replaces Dusty Littrell, who resigned from the Council last month.

Fayette County Saturated by Recent Rains

To the left is a picture of Lane Pool Creek in the Cozy Corner area of Fayette County, running nearly two feet over the county road Saturday, swelled by recent rainfall that has saturated Fayette County. LCRA’s weather station on the Colorado River above La Grange had gotten 7.59 inches of rain in the last week with more predicted Monday and Tuesday. Some areas of the county have gotten nearly a foot of rain in the last week.

U-Turn on Highway 77 Injures Two

A Houston man suffered serious injuries in a wreck on US 77 north of La Grange. The crash happened near the intersection of Bear Creek Road and US 77 around 4:17 p.m.

Grant Received For Drainage Master Plan

Fayette County received a $466,039 grant to develop a master drainage plan for the County. This long-awaited grant dates back to 2018.

La Grange Main Street has been designated as an Accredited Main Street America program for meeting rigorous performance standards. Each year, Main Street America and its partners announce the list of Accredited programs to recognize their exceptional commitment to preservationbased economic development and community revitalization through the Main Street Approach.

Pasture Weed Seminar May 26

Weeds! Weeds! Weeds! With the recent beneficial rains, it is time to turn our minds to improving our pastures and eliminating the weeds. The Friends of the Weimar Public Library and the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Office of Colorado County will present “Pasture Weed Identification: Strategies and Tips” at the Weimar Public Library from 10 a.m.

‘Extra Texas’ the Focus of New Quilt Exhibits

For the first time in its history, the Texas Quilt Museum in La Grange will present four exhibits on display simultaneously featuring a wide array of “Extra Texas” subjects, collections, and artists. Running from May 11-August 26, 2023 will be ATribute to Mary Ann Vaca-Lambert, Western Quilts by Sarah Dryden, Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Blue Ribbon Winners, and the doll exhibit What a Doll!

Gonzalez Resigning Council Seat

La Grange Ward 4 Councilman Quenten Gonzalez told the Record that he plans to resign from the Council at the May 22 meeting. Gonzalez said he and his family are moving to Tulsa, Oklahoma.
