Praha Celebrates Its 170th Church Festival

On Aug. 15, 1855, the first Feast of the Assumption celebration was held in the small Czech community in southern Fayette County that was later renamed Praha in honor of Prague, the capital of the homeland of the Czech immigrants who came here. Ever since, on the Feast of the Assumption on August 15, Praha has been celebrating its faith and community with one of the largest church picnics around. Friday was no different as thousands came to Praha for the 170th annual feast.

Alzheimer’s Survivor Walking Across America Comes Through Fayette County

Judy Benjamin is walking 3,000 miles across America sharing the message of hope that cognitive decline can be prevented and reversed. She came through Fayette County last week, via Winchester, on her way from San Diego to San Augustine. Benjamin was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s at the age of 67, following her mother’s passing after a 20-year struggle with the same disease. After receiving her diagnosis, Judy made major adjustments to her diet and lifestyle. This journey led her to a fortuitous meeting with Dr. Dale Bredesen, ultimately becoming his “patient zero” as she adopted his groundbreaking, clinically validated protocol for treating and preventing cognitive decline.
