La Grange NHS Inducts New Members

The La Grange High School National Honor Society held their induction of new members Wednesday September 10 at the school’s Performing Arts Center. SNHU Announces President’s List

It is with great pleasure that Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) congratulates the following students on being named to the Summer 2025 President’s List: Stephanie Underwood of La Grange; Victoria Ribera of Flatonia; and Melissa Baker of Carmine. The summer terms run from May to August.

St. John-Ellinger Hosting Roast Beef Dinner

Tickets are being sold for the roast beef dinner at St. John in Ellinger. The drive through will be on Sunday, Oct. 12 beginning at 11 a.m. Plates are $15 and advance tickets are encouraged. Fayette County Declares September as Suicide Prevention Month

Fayette County Commissioners Court signed a proclamation designating September as Suicide Prevention Month in Fayette County. The proclamation states that suicide is the 11th leading cause of death nationwide and the 2nd leading cause of death among people in Texas between the ages of 15 and 34.

Shelter Updates Hours of Operation

The Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter (GJAS) hours of operation are as follows: open 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday for all normal operations. Closed Monday to the public with staff onsite for animal care from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. Reclaims allowed on Monday after 10 a.m. If you believe your lost pet may be in care, call (979) 966-0021 to confirm and learn requirements for reclaim.

Fort the Record

The public is invited to attend the Fayette County Republican Women General Meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 17, from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m., at Frisch Auf! Valley Country Club, 575 Country Club Drive in La Grange. Check-in begins at 10:45 a.m. Lunch is available for $20. Program speaker will be Mr. Chris Russo, the founder and President of Texans for Strong Borders. Chris founded Strong Borders in 2022 after observing that while many special interest policy organizations exist across the conservative spectrum, no group was organized and actively pushing for Texas First border security and immigration policies at the state level. Burn Ban Enacted

Fayette County Commissioners Court voted unanimously to implement a burn ban at their meeting last Thursday, Sept. 11.

90 Years Old, But Still ‘Coach’

On Friday night, reunions were held for the 1975 and 2000 state championship Leopard football teams at the La Grange home game, and there was one guy everyone wanted to talk to. Ben Bloomer was the head coach of the 1975 Leopards and even though he is 90 years old, he made the trip from Corpus Christi to be there for the event (thanks to his daughter, who takes care of him). “I feel like it was yesterday,” Bloomer said of that title season 50 years ago.
