Weimar Mayor Address Recent Controversies

Editor’s note: In light of recent developments in the City of Weimar, detailed in Friday’s story in the Record titled “Weimar City Manager Resigns After Charges Come to Light,” Weimar mayor Carlton Tucker issued this statement and asked if we would include it in the newspaper. Here is that statement in full:

To the Residents of Weimar, I want to speak to you directly and reassure you of the City’s ongoing commitment to transparency, accountability, and the continued prosperity of our community. In light of recent events, it is important that we address concerns surrounding our current policies and procedures.

It has become clear that our hiring process for city employees needs immediate improvement. City officials are now working closely with our City Attorney to strengthen these practices, including more reliable and enhanced background checks.

Please know that had any of the recently discovered charges against former City Manager Donald Dixson appeared in the background information available to us at the time, he would not have been considered for the position. We remain committed to bringing knowledgeable, capable, and honorable professionals into our organization—individuals who will help move Weimar forward while respecting the small-town values we all cherish. We extend our genuine thanks to Mr. Harrington with Corruption Watch–Texas for bringing this information forward. Because of the tip he received and shared with us, we were able to identify and remove this deception from within our city leadership.

To reinforce transparency and accountability, we are actively researching thirdparty background investigation firms to ensure more comprehensive vetting of all future city employees. These improvements will be integrated into our hiring process as quickly and responsibly as possible.

We understand that recent online discussions may have created the impression of a lack of transparency from the City of Weimar. That is not, and has never been, our mission. We appreciate your patience and continued support as we strengthen our policies and procedures to better serve you.

As always, we encourage residents to share concerns with your local council members so that we can address them promptly and effectively. Your voice is vital to good governance.

Our priority—now and always—is to uphold the integrity of city operations and maintain the trust and confidence of the people we are honored to serve.

Respectfully, Mayor Carlton Tucker
