On Thursday, July 16, Fayette County Texas Ramp Project volunteers built a 44-foot wheelchair ramp on Munke Road south of La Grange. Texas Ramp Project is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization that provides wheelchair ramps to low-income older adults and people with disabilities identifi ed by local healthcare providers.

The Czech Village, located in the City of La Grange Fairgrounds, was the setting for the 16th semi-annual family reunion of the descendants of Filip and Johanna Bucek held on July 10 and 11. Filip emigrated from the Frydek region ,of what is now the Czech Republic, in 1860 arriving through the Port of Galveston before settling in Fayette County.

Fayette County ranked number one in the state in hog production, with 25,900 head reported on hand during a recent tabulation, according to Texas Agriculture Commissioner John C. White. Other Texas counties in the top 10 were: Llano, Lubbock, Mason, Gillespie, Fisher, Gray, Lee and Wilson. Nationally, the state’s total of 780,000 hogs put Texas in the number 16 spot, with a value of $52,650,000, up from $40,890,000 the prior year. The average price per head had jumped from $43.50 to $67.50 in two years.
