Schulenburg Young Farmers Host Hay Show at Fair

Grand champion in the Fayette County Hay Show went to Stryk Jersey Farm. They entered a hay grazer BMR-3 variety that measured 15 percent crude protein. The entry sold for $3,200 at auction. The buyer was Schulenburg Livestock. Stryk Jersey Farm received 1,000 lbs. of fertilizer donated by La Grange Farm and Ranch along with 225 lbs. of molasses with Clarify, 500 lbs. of jumbo rye seed and 50 lbs. of Safe Guard wormer cubes donated by BWI of Schulenburg. First place in Class 1 hay went to Mark Stang who entered a coastal Bermudagrass variety. The entry sold for $1,400 at auction. Stang received 225 lbs. Of molasses with Clarify donated by BWI of Schulenburg. Buyers were Kleiber Tractor and Equipment, Wick Water Well Service, Fayette Savings Bank, M-G of Weimar and Tex Propane. First place in Class 4 hay went to Lloyd Goedrich who entered a mixed grass variety. The entry sold for $1,200 at auction. Goedrich received 225 lbs. of molasses with Clarify donated by BWI of Schulenburg. Buyers were Darrl and Dina Ohnheiser, Flatonia Livestock Auction, Giddings Livestock, Ed Moeller and City Meat Market and Processing of Schulenburg and La Grange. Reserve champion in the Fayette County Fair Hay Show went to Ed Moeller. Moeller entered a Kleingrass variety that measured 14.9 percent crude protein. The entry sold for $2,000 at auction. Buyers were Willie Joe’s Processing, Bubela Tree Farm and Arbor Care, Mark and Tonya Stang and Oak Grove Veterinary Clinic. Moeller received 1,000 lbs. of fertilizer donated by Bumper Crop Texas along with 225 lbs. of molasses with Clarify and 250 lbs. of jumbo rye seed donated by BWI of Schulenburg. First place in Class 2 hay went to Matt Arthur who entered a Tifton grass entry. The entry sold for $1,000 at auction. Arthur received 225 lbs. of molasses with Clarify donated by BWI of Schulenburg. Buyers were Kleiber Tractor and Equipment, Wick Water Well Service, Fayette Savings Bank, M-G of Weimar and Tex Propane. The Fayette County Fair Hay Show sponsored by the Schulenburg Young Farmers took place Thursday night, Sept. 3. There were 41 entries in this year’s show.
