Holy Cross Lutheran Church has resumed services while complying with State guidelines for corporate worship. The Pastor’s Bible Class immediately follows the service in the sanctuary; however, all other Sunday School classes remain cancelled. Members 65 and older and those with underlying health conditions are encouraged to continue to worship from their homes.

This week the Fayette County Office of Emergency Management began reporting pre-cinct-by-precinct details about the spread of the coronavirus locally.

A headline in the Tuesday edition incorrectly stated the deadline for the County Election Office to receive a mail-in ballot application for the Democratic runoff election for the July 14 primary.

John Eilert stepped down as a councilman for Ward 4 in La Grange at the city council meeting Tuesday night, May 26. He had served in that position for 12 years. The City Council took the opportunity to proclaim that day as John Eilert Day in La Grange.

La Grange High School held its annual senior scholarship presentation ceremony Wednesday morning in the high school parking lot. In past years, the event took place in the basketball gym and usually lasted most of the morning as presenters would take pictures with each of the scholarship recipients. The school made some big changes to the ceremony due to the coronavirus pandemic this year. Radio host Gary Dusek, who broadcasted the event live on KVLG/KBUK that morning, compared the scene to a drive-in movie theater. Parents and guests watched from their cars and listened to Dusek announce the scholarship recipients on the radio. Students came up one by one to stand on a stage by themselves as their scholarship awards were announced. There were no shaking of hands. No one handed out award envelopes; students had to pick those up from a stack on a table. The very clinical affair lasted only about 45 minutes. A Louisiana man faces credit card abuse and hit-and-run charges after a bizarre turn of events that took place on Monday.

The move-in date for the new AMEN food pantry looks like it will be sometime in June. The move will occur on a Tuesday so as not to disrupt the food distribution schedule of the pantry, and treasurer Garry Schellberg said the pantry won’t miss a single distribution day because of the move. Here’s a look inside the new food storage area.

National Bank and Trust presented gifts to each of the members of the La Grange Volunteer Fire Department on Tuesday, May 26. Staff members from the bank wrote personalized thank you letters to each of the firefighters. Each firefighter was also presented with a custom-made baseball cap. “This is a token of our appreciation,” said NBT President Tracy Harris. “We know that you’re always there for us, and we want you to know that we are here for you.” Pictured are the members of the La Grange VFD along with the staff from NBT.
