La Grange Scholarship Ceremony Like No Other

La Grange Scholarship Ceremony Like No Other

La Grange High School held its annual senior scholarship presentation ceremony Wednesday morning in the high school parking lot. In past years, the event took place in the basketball gym and usually lasted most of the morning as presenters would take pictures with each of the scholarship recipients. The school made some big changes to the ceremony due to the coronavirus pandemic this year. Radio host Gary Dusek, who broadcasted the event live on KVLG/KBUK that morning, compared the scene to a drive-in movie theater. Parents and guests watched from their cars and listened to Dusek announce the scholarship recipients on the radio. Students came up one by one to stand on a stage by themselves as their scholarship awards were announced. There were no shaking of hands. No one handed out award envelopes; students had to pick those up from a stack on a table. The very clinical affair lasted only about 45 minutes. We’ll run photos of all the scholarship winners and their awards next week.
