Precinct 3 Now Accounts for 15 of Our 18 Active Cases

This week the Fayette County Office of Emergency Management began reporting precinct-by-precinct details about the spread of the coronavirus locally.

Here are the latest numbers for Fayette County as of Wednesday afternoon, May 27:

Pct. 3, the Flatonia area, has the greatest number of active cases at 15. Many of those came from an outbreak of the virus at Cal Maine Foods, a major employer in the Flatonia area.

County Judge Joe Weber said he issued official quarantine orders to a few people with the virus in Pct. 3 who were not following instructions to stay at home.

Pct. 4, the Schulenburg area, is now the only part of the County with no active cases of the virus. Schulenburg was one of the areas first hit by the virus after it infected several people who live and work at a hotel there. One Schulenburg man in his 70s died from complications of the COVID-19 disease on April 22. That case was not related to the hotel outbreak.

The other official coronavirus death in Fayette County was a man in his 70s from Fayetteville who succumbed to the disease on May 13. A woman from Carmine in her 90s also died from the virus back in April, but she was living at a nursing home in Brenham at the time. The Texas Department of State Health Services attributed her death to Washington County.
