Rumors of Lukas Bakery Closure Untrue

Larry Faldyn, the owner of Lukas Bakery in La Grange doesn’t know why the rumor has started that his historic bakery on the courthouse square in La Grange is closing, but he said the shop has been getting calls for the past several days asking about its status.

Faldyn said he has no plans to close the bakery any time soon.

In fact, he’s 68 and plans to keep running it until he’s at least 70, at which point he said he’d love to sell it to someone who would like to keep it going as a bakery – and he’d be willing to train them.

One change at the bakery is that they have stopped selling and making donuts, in part because of the loss of an employee and a change in insurance rates. Faldyn thinks that change in menu may have fueled the false impeding closure rumors.

Despite not selling donuts, the bakery still makes its other daily array of kolaches, pig-in-the-blankets, fresh bread. etc.
