Court Annunciation No. 1962 La Grange placed white ribbons and a WRAP banner around the courthouse lawn to raise awareness to the dangers of pornography in today’s society. It is well documented that sex trafficking, including child sex trafficking, has increased over the years. It is our hope to raise awareness to this horrific problem and make people more vigilant in their everyday lives. WRAP (White Ribbon Against Pornography) Campaign is observed the week of Oct. 25 through Nov. 1. The WRAP campaign began in 1987 when Norma Norris of Pennsylvania was inspired by her priest’s sermon on the apathy by the city’s local prosecutors and law enforcement of the pornography being sold in their community. Norma wanted to send out the message of “We care! We count!” She wanted a plan that was simple, inexpensive, and noticeable. She came up with the idea of using a white ribbon as a symbol of decency. She worked with her priest and leaders of the community as well as local churches to organize the first White Ribbon Campaign. White ribbons were distributed, huge white ribbon bows were sent to the Governor and Attorney General of Pennsylvania, petitions were signed and a motorcade was organized. The first campaign culminated in the bulldozing of a closed porn bookstore in front of a crowd of citizens and cameras from local TV stations. That year, Morality in Media became the national sponsor of the WRAP Campaign. Turtle Wing Foundation recently granted Lindsey Ahrens, owner and director of Clover Connection Child Development Center in Flatonia, a $500 minigrant to assist in acquiring curriculum and supplies to implement Conscious Discipline at their center.

Some antique vendors from California who were selling their wares in Round Top at one of the fall shows had some trouble getting back to their hotel in Giddings Tuesday. On the drive to the hotel at the end of their day, about 6 p.m. they smelled gas as they neared Carmine and their truck caught on fire. No local site has been christened in such a unique way. Saturday a new butterfly garden at the Fayette Heritage Library grounds was officially dedicated by attendees all opening up envelopes with live butterflies inside.

La Grange is going to get a community Fire Hydrant Art Program. Michael Clann, President of ARTS for Rural Rexas, based in Fayetteville, addressed the council about a plan to creatively repaint fire hydrants throughout town.

Wednesday morning Fayette County Sheriff’s Department responded to a report of a missing 88 year old female from the Warda area. The woman was last seen the previous afternoon and when she did not answer Wednesday morning when being checked on by family, they called authorities.

During the summer, when the State of Texas imposed face covering rules because of the pandemic (masks are required in public when six feet of social distancing is not possible, though there are a number of exceptions), the City of La Grange passed a local ordinance “affirming” the state ruling.

Tom Hudson, the owner of the La Grange Subway, and his company JATOR, Inc, have dropped their lawsuit against the City of La Grange stemming from the years-long dispute over the restaurant’s electric sign.

More details have emerged on the planned city park in the Hope Hill subdivision. The La Grange city council unanimously voted to move forward with the plan, and city officials are now poised to submit a grant application to Texas Park and Wildlife next week.
