LG Fire Hydrants to Become Works of Art

La Grange is going to get a community Fire Hydrant Art Program.

Michael Clann, President of ARTS for Rural Rexas, based in Fayetteville, addressed the council about a plan to creatively repaint fire hydrants throughout town.

“We would like to solicit supporters for ARTS programs in La Grange by requesting businesses/individuals to underwrite the painting of fire hydrants with designs done by students in our programs,” Clann wrote in a letter to the council. “We believe a fringe benefit of this program would be to promote tourism.”

Raborn said there are a number of similar programs like this throughout the country and the “city gets the benefit of having them painted.”

The color of the top (bonnet) of the hydrants differs around the city and indicates important information to firefighters (pressure, size, etc.) and those area will not be painted.
