On Nov. 9, Angel Brothers Holdings Corp. began construction of the bridge on Business Highway 71 East over the Colorado River. Angel Brothers Holdings Corp. of Baytown was awarded the contract with a bid of $13.6 million dollars. Park and boat ramp will be closed starting the week of November 9, until work is complete. Traffic should pay special attention as trucks will be entering and exiting the work area. Message boards will alert traffic to operations that may affect movement though the work zone.

Sheriff Keith Korenek reports activities of Fayette County Sheriff Deputies for the month of October. Deputy Ben Wilson responded to a residence off of FM 609 for a theft of two jet skis.

Turtle Wing Foundation will again partner with Schulenburg/Weimar Area Parents as Teachers to provide quality training for early childhood educators, daycare providers, their staff, and all parents of young children. The next training will be on Thursday, Nov. 19 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic School Family Life Center in Hallettsville. The Ellinger Chamber of Commerce has scheduled another fundraiser. Mark your calendars for Sunday, Dec. 6. They will be serving a drive-thru fried chicken and sausage lunch. This is usually the date for the annual Polka Fest.

On November 11 at 10 a.m., the Smith-McMillan Chapter, NSDAR held a Revolutionary War Patriot Memorial Service at the Veterans’ Memorial on the grounds of the Fayette County Courthouse. The event was held to recall the men and women who imperiled their lives, fortunes and sacred honor to form these United States.
