Wednesday was Veterans Day, an appropriate time, I thought, to look back at how The Fayette County Record covered wartime. It only took one issue, the very first one I looked at, to realized just how important, but how heartbreaking, the paper’s coverage of WWII was.

La Grange Firefighters put out a dumpster fire near the La Grange High School softball field early Monday morning. According to La Grange Police Chief David Gilbreath, Police Officer Brett Meinardus was patrolling the area around the school when he noticed the dumpster on fire.

In this time of angst, and divisiveness, it is important for us all to remember we are AMERICANS. And with that, we must also remember those that have sacrificed so much so that we all may enjoy the freedoms of Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

Fayetteville students and staff planned a COVID alternative to their traditional Veterans Day assembly. They instead made banners and waved flags to honor local veterans during a parade through their school. They could be heard yelling “Thank you for your service” and chanting “U.S.A.” Dr. Jeff Harvey, a veteran himself, led the parade and was followed by local veterans who decorated their vehicles for the occasion. John Crowley, the grandfather to the Moreau students who attend FISD, flew his plane over the parade numerous times. At the end of the parade, each veteran was given gift bags that included letters of thanks from students. Fayetteville ISD appreciates all Veterans that participated and especially FISD Veterans Dr. Jeff Harvey, Ray Brothers and Eugene Kubicek.

Navidad Valley Community Center will be serving a Thanksgiving meal on Wednesday, Nov. 18 and the St. Rose Singers will join for some singing and fun. Birthdays of the month will be celebrated on this day as well.

Several veterans residing in Care Inn of La Grange were recognized and presented certificates of appreciation for their service to our country at a ceremony at Care Inn on Veterans Day. Also dedicated was a new flag pole and flag donated to Care Inn by the La Grange American Legion Post 102 and the VFW Post 5254. Pictured are Dick Frenzel, left, Robert S.
