Veterans Day Event Held on Square
On November 11 at 10 a.m., the Smith-McMillan Chapter, NSDAR held a Revolutionary War Patriot Memorial Service at the Veterans’ Memorial on the grounds of the Fayette County Courthouse.
The event was held to recall the men and women who imperiled their lives, fortunes and sacred honor to form these United States.
Commemorative Events Chair Lois Wink recognized special guest Fayette County Judge and retired Marine Corps General Joe Weber as well as other guests in attendance. Sherry Hebert, filling in for the Chapter’s chaplain, led the service.
During the service, each DAR member and guest was given an opportunity to speak aloud the name, rank and state of their ancestral Revolutionary War patriot or the name of one patriot that they wished to honor.
In commemoration of both the 75th anniversary of WWII and the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War, arrangements were placed on the plaques honthe brave veterans.
